What Type of ID Is Required for a Notarization?

All identification cards must be a United States unexpired, current, and contain a photo, description, and signature.

The Texas Secretary of State allows the following forms of identification.

Texas Driver License

United States Driver’s License

US Military ID Card

Texas ID Card

US Passport

Foreign Passports Stamped by US Customs (only for real estate transactions)

The ID must match the document or be “Shorter than” the name on your ID.

Example:

If the document is requiring the signature of Mary Jane Holly and your ID says Mary Holly, that will work.
